What is GivingTuesday?

After Black Friday and Cyber Monday … imagine a day dedicated to giving back, around the world, across Canada and in your own community. Just as Black Friday and Cyber Monday kick off the holiday shopping season, November 29th 2016, GivingTuesday is the opening day of the giving season. GivingTuesday is a free and open grass roots movement to encourage generosity – find out more here or you can join the movement here.

What is happening in our community?

In 2015 there was a groundswell of GivingTuesday activity, organized by local civic groups in 22 cities across the country, including Halifax, Ottawa, Guelph, Sarnia, Regina, Calgary and Vancouver. These community movements created a platform for a deeper level of engagement between charities, businesses and local residents. In Montreal we are celebrating Montreal Donne and inviting all Montreal charities to come together on GivingTuesday November 29th 2016, to celebrate this day of giving. This will be a unique and inspiring nation-wide engagement, supporting all non-profits at the height of the giving season.

Did GivingTuesday make a difference in 2015?

Our third GivingTuesday exceeded all expectations. Over 4,700 organizations across Canada joined in GivingTuesday, along with millions of Canadians, creating national awareness, and a significant impact on volunteerism, donations and other forms of generosity and giving. CanadaHelps reported a major impact on charitable donations with over 300% increase on GivingTuesday compared to the same period prior to the launch of GivingTuesday.

Who is involved?

GivingTuesday is a free and open, grass roots movement. In Canada it was initiated in 2013 by CanadaHelps and the GIV3 Foundation, and quickly joined by 15 founding partners. The movement now includes over 4,700 charities, businesses and community groups, encouraging all Canadians to get involved and rally behind charities of their choice.

What should I expect on October 6th?

This event (and all of GivingTuesday) is free. There are no fees, no hidden costs and no required commitment. We simply ask you to come and listen and learn about how GivingTuesday and Montreal Donne can be leveraged to benefit your organization, the community and the entire charitable sector. You will meet like-minded leaders from organizations all over Montreal, share ideas and get inspired to engage with this unique community initiative.

Organized by

By granting doctoral scholarships, awarding fellowships, appointing mentors, and holding public events, the Foundation encourages critical reflection and action in four areas important to Canadians: human rights and dignity, responsible citizenship, Canada’s role in the world, and people and their natural environment.
